Groundhog Punxsutawny Phil Sees Shadow : Predicts 6 More Weeks of Winter
This morning, February 2nd, marks the annual American tradition of Groundhog Day. This old-fashioned holiday was a fun and popular way to predict the weather and the length of the upcoming year’s seasons. Legend has it that if the Groundhog emerges from his hole on February 2nd and sees his shadow then there will be six more weeks of winter. If the Groundhog doesn’t see his shadow, Spring is soon to arrive!
Unfortunately for us, and for Phil who has received death threats and worse this year… the Groundhog saw his shadow. The humorous Bill Murray comedy classic, ‘Groundhog Day,’ was filmed around the events that surround the famous rodent and the little town that is the center of this holiday.
The prediction that we are in for six more weeks of winter has not gone over well. At least the sleepy hedgehog can return to its legendary home in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania for another year of rest until next year’s big celebration, which attracts people from all over the world and includes dancing and fireworks.
